Mercenary Pictures' Black Reign 9

Mercenary Pictures' Black Reign 9 Continues Company's Sovereignty in Ethnic
Market
CANOGA PARK, Calif. — Continuing its dominance in the ethnic market, Mercenary
Pictures' critically-acclaimed and award-winning Black Reign series showcases five
beauties in its ninth volume.
Directed by Lexington Steele and in stores now, Black Reign 9 stars Pinky, Annabelle,
Naomi Banxxx, America and Kaylani Cream. The ethnic title also features Brian Pumper,
Mr. Marcus, Black Viking Pictures' director of You'd Never Know Don Picone and three
time AVN Male Performer of the Year and owner of Mercenary and Black Viking,
Lexington Steele.
"Black Reign's one of the best-reviewed ethnic lines produced in the industry," Steele
said. "It's won AVN awards for Best Ethnic Series twice in 2005 and 2006. Mercenary
takes pride in these awards, but I've always made my all-black titles more important in
priority than my other titles because I've always felt that the ethnic segment of the market
has consistently been underrepresented by the industry. Many of the black women in the
industry were never given the opportunity to be in a first class gonzo production before
we entered the business."
Consumers and retailers have responded to the high production value Mercenary places
on Black Reign and its other ethnic lines, Black Moon Risin' and Nightstick: Black POV,
the only ethnic POV series on the market.
"There's a demand for quality, well-produced ethnic titles," Steele said. "That demand has
never been served -- until now -- and until we entered the marketplace, the titles that were
available were nothing close to what those consumers were looking for. Mercenary will
continue to serve this audience and produce the high-quality, all-sex ethnic titles they
demand."

"Colored" Producers/Directors Are They Really Needed?

I have been watching porn since the mid-80s. Somewhere around 1986 I saw a Players magazine ad for a video with Ebony Ayes in it. It was one of the compilation tapes that had several scenes with black porn stars in it. I ordered the tape and received within a couple of weeks. After viewing that tape I became an Ebony Ayes devotee and a big fan of Jeannie Pepper. But once I started buying the videos with Ebony and Jeannie in them I realized that I really didn’t like the way they were being presented. They were always being seen as subservient to their white counterparts. During this time in porn videos came with a story line. But where these two women distinguished themselves would be in their sex scenes. Often times in an Ebony Ayes or Jeannie Pepper scene they would take over and instead of getting fucked they would be doing the fucking. In a very short time these two women became fan favorites and they also become what I called “undeniable”. Regardless as to how the producers or directors wanted to portray them they were able to rise above all of it to become adult stars.

Lets fast forward to 2006, 20 years after the purchase of my first of an adult video tape. The adult industry has changed somewhat. There is a black market for porn that many companies are interested in getting a piece of. Many of these companies have a division just for the black market which 20 years ago was totally unheard of. Plus you do have a black owned company that is (from what has been seen) totally held by a black CEO. Also you have black producers and directors in the adult industry that 20 years ago was unheard of too. As much as some things have changed so many things remain the same. What’s dishearten about this is that we have black producers and directors that have become “colored” producers and directors that continue to promote the same negative stereotypical imagery that the “white masters” has handed down to them.

Lexington Steele’s Mercenary Pictures has done a fairly good job with their productions. I like how they shoot their box covers and the women that they use are attractive and fit. I guess I am not a big fan of gonzo and that’s all that is produced at Mercenary Pictures. And damn bro is there any other theme you can come up with when shooting interracial besides the big black buck fucking the virtuous white woman? When Steele first came into the business the videos still had a story line. I will place Mercenary Pictures at the top of the food chain when it comes to black porn. If they were to start doing features again it would force the rest of the market to look at doing more features too. Gonzo is so boring and shows absolutely no creativity. As far as directors I have enjoyed projects directed by Alexander DeVoe. Production quality is always good and the women he uses are attractive. So far he’s staying away from the stereotypical imagery and presenting women of color in a fair light.

You have a Steele and DeVoe that are doing well right now. West Coast Productions have in the past kept its production and talent quality up and it’s black owned. Then you have this new type of black producer. He or she is on the other side of the Neutral Zone and will never cross that barrier because they lack the finances and the aptitude to do so. But because of the Internet the “colored” producer can directly take his product to the public. Without creativity and imagination the “colored” producer can only present the formula that is available with all the negative imagery that the “white master” enjoys bring to the public. I don’t think any women has to be degraded for good erotica but I don’t understand how a black male or black female could ask black talent to do anything that demeaning. A black male or black female producer or director couldn’t but a “colored” one could.

The “colored” producer/director comes from the point of low self-esteem and feels that since a female is into porn she is there to be degraded and used. The “colored” producer/director is very unfilled has no conscience and is willing to promote negative stereotypical imagery of women of color, especially black women on the hope of financial profit. The “colored” producer/director is limited with their thinking and has no idea that damage that they are participating in. Now I ask you in today’s world of adult entertainment is there any use or need for the “colored” producer/director? What I ask the “colored” producer/director is to stand up and be a part of dismantling of the negative stereotypical imagery of women of color in the adult industry. Stand up and be the strong black man or woman you should be.

Ms. Jada Fire

Open Letter To Ms. Jada Fire

Of all the women of color in the adult industry I think that you, Ms. Jada Fire should be able to distinguish yourself from the rest. But it doesn’t look like you are concern with ascending to the top of your industry or in your case as far as the industry will let you go. I recently saw you holding up a sign stating that you weren’t on MySpace. My question to you is why not? Of all the projects that you are in and all the hard work that you do why not have at least some of the money come directly to you? Jada, why don’t you have an Internet presence, i.e. web site, yahoo club, and MySpace site?

Jada, you have hoards fans that would love to be able to put there hands on you any time of the day or night. A web site would be just the ticket for them. A web site can do a few things for you. Mainly it can bring you revenue that will totally be yours. All you need to do is place content on your paid site that can be seen exclusively at your site. Another thing a web site can do is show the strength you have amongst your fans. Your web site should take off if marketed properly. A yahoo club and MySpace would be just a feeder to your web site. A successful web site can be used as leverage when you are negotiating a salary. Someone with your fan base and your willingness to do what it takes for a scene shouldn’t step on a set for under $2,000.00. From there your fee would be determined by what is needed for the scene.

Jada, let just say that you don’t have any computer skills at all. Then you hire people to do this for you. You can start Team Jada and it could be made up of a web designer, a marketing director and a photographer. This team could take care of your web site and make sure it stays up and running. Of course you would shoot content for it that can only be seen at your site. You will need to be creative and fresh and success for you will be quick. There’s no question that you don’t mind working hard for others but what’s wrong with working just as hard for yourself? I am not going to sit here and tell you that it’s not going to be work involved but I hope you understand that Jada Fire is a brand name. That’s going to make it so much easier.

I would like to see you be as successful as you can and take all that you can out of the adult industry. Because it’s going to take all it can from you. With your resume’ and your fan base you can become an “undeniable” force in the adult industry. This isn’t a put down at all but I hope that this will make you think just a little. I feel you are missing out on monies that you have earned and deserve. Let your time in the adult industry be a total success for you.
